Dalnoid is set on the hillsides of Glenshee, at the entrance to the Cairngorms National Park, surrounded by stunning scenery and wildlife throughout the year

Spot red squirrel, deer, stoats, pheasants

and a range of birds from your cottage, or venture out by foot, car or bike to enjoy the changing seasons and in search of majestic stags, Golden eagles, osprey, red grouse, mountain hares and more.

The Cairngorms National Park is home to 5 of the UK's 6 highest mountains and 25% of the UK's most threatened wildlife species can be found here.

Just outside of Dunkeld, visit Loch of the Lowes Visitor Centre and Wildlife Reserve to catch sight of ospreys, red squirrels, beavers and various birds.

Take a drive over Glenshee to Braemar, especially at dusk, and you have a good chance of seeing a herd of red deer and mountain hares - drive carefully though!

To enjoy the surrounding countryside, some of our favourite places to visit and walk are:

Cateran Trail - with Dalnoid almost at its centre, the Cateran Trail is a 64 mile circular walk taking in the local scenery from Blairgowrie to the Spittal of Glenshee and across to Glenisla. Split into a number of shorter sections, along with some mini trails, it is very easy to just do some parts of it.

Kirkmichael Paths Network - the nearby village of Kirkmichael has a network of way-marked paths to suit all abilities

Reekie Linn Falls in Glenisla is an impressive waterfall, accessed by a short walk along the rim of a deep gorge, through woodland

Den of Alyth is a wooded glen on the outskirts of Alyth - great in the autumn for kicking leaves and playing 'Pooh Sticks'

Linn of Dee, nr Braemar on the Mar Lodge Estate, offers a variety of high and low level walks through forests and beside rivers

Glen Doll, Angus - 6 way-marked trails lead directly from the car park

If you'd rather stay in the car, then drive either of these 2 scenic routes to enjoy the countryside:

Snow Roads - a 90 mile journey from Blairgowrie to Grantown-on-Spey, which includes the 2 highest public roads in Britain The Cairnwell Pass 670m at Glenshee and The Lecht at 644m

North East 250 - is a circular route that can be joined near Braemar and takes in the whisky distilleries of Speyside, the mountain passes of the Cairngorms National Park, the castles of Royal Deeside, the city of Aberdeen, the rugged North Sea coastline and the picturesque seaside villages of the Moray Firth.
