Dundee's Waterfront: Located just 50 mins away,
Dundee's Waterfront has undergone a major redevelopment and is now home to V&A
Dundee - the first ever dedicated design museum in Scotland and the only other V&A
museum anywhere outside London.
Next to the V&A, Discovery Point is home to the RRS Discovery - Captain Scott
of the Antarctic's ship
Royal Deeside: 30 mins drive to the north will take you to Royal Deeside.
The village of Braemar is home to the annual Braemar Gathering, attended by members of the
Royal Family when they are staying at nearby Balmoral Castle, the Braemar Highland Games Centre and Braemar
Castle.
Further north at Crathie is Balmoral Castle - the King's highland holiday home - and
then on to the heart of Royal Deeside, Ballater - a picturesque Victorian town, with
an array of Royal Warrants on the shops and business premises and a royal exhibition at the
Old Royal Station.
Pitlochry
to the west of Dalnoid is a popular tourist town, accessed over Moulin Moor. There are walks
along the River Tummel and through the woods around Loch Faskally. On the outskirts of the
town is the Pitlochry Festival Theatre, where you can see 6 different
plays in 6 days during their summer season.
If you can't resist the urge to shop or browse while you are away,
then incorporate some of these delights on a day trip out:
Wee House of Glenshee - less than a mile away from Dalnoid,
this gift shop, visitor centre & tea room sits at the entrance to the Cairngorms National
Park. They stock an extensive range of quality Scottish crafts and gifts, so come and have a
leisurely browse, stop for coffee and home-made cake and pick up some local information in the
Visitor Centre.
House of
Bruar - widely acknowledged as Scotland's most prestigious independent store and
leading Scottish country clothing specialist. The range of dedicated stores include clothing,
cashmere, sporting & fishing, country living, gallery & food hall. The on-site
restaurant is very popular and the Falls of Bruar waterfall walk from the car park gives an
alternative activity for the non-shoppers!
Peel Farm
nr Kirriemuir includes a Courtyard gift shop showcasing mainly local stockists, a farm shop
with local produce and coffee shop.
Scottish Antiques & Arts Centre nr Perth plays host to
over 125 antique dealers. The antiques area is an Aladdin's Cave of items from the past,
presented in fresh, modern surroundings.
If you are travelling with children, then the following might be of
interest for an enjoyable day out:
Camperdown Wildlife Centre, Play Area & Country Park -
situated just outside of Dundee. This 400 acre park includes a wildlife centre with brown
bears, lemurs, marmosets, birds of prey etc. There is also an extensive outdoor play complex
with equipment to suit different age groups.
Active Kids Adventure Park near Perth is an outdoor adventure
park for children and adults, including jelly bellies, crazy golf, giant slides and play fort.
There is also an indoor soft play area suitable for little ones.
Cairnie Fruit Farm in Fife has an outdoor Adventure Funyard
with an array of activities including straw bale climbing fortress, go-karts, zip wires,
sunken trampolines, bouncing pillows and crazy swings. From mid-July their themed Mega Maze
opens and there is pick-your-own soft fruit in the adjacent poly-tunnels.
